Where 9 LPA sits in the tax slabs
Your taxable income under the new regime is ₹7,74,005: the salary less the ₹75,000 standard deduction. That is within the ₹12 lakh that the section 156 rebate makes tax-free, so the new regime charges no income tax at all. What you lose from your CTC is provident fund, the gratuity provision and professional tax, not tax.
9 LPA in different states
Income tax is the same everywhere in India, but professional tax is set by each state, from nothing in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to ₹2,500 a year in Maharashtra and Karnataka. It is a small difference, but it is the only part of this calculation that changes when you move.
| State | Professional tax a year | In hand a month |
|---|---|---|
| Karnataka | ₹2,500 | ₹68,095 |
| Maharashtra | ₹2,500 | ₹68,095 |
| Telangana | ₹2,400 | ₹68,104 |

Old or new regime at 9 LPA
The new regime wins outright. It charges no income tax at this salary, and no combination of old-regime deductions can beat zero. The old regime would cost you ₹68,566 a year with only your PF claimed under section 123.

If you get a hike
A 10% hike, to ₹9.9 L, adds ₹7,320 a month in hand; a 20% hike, to ₹10.8 L, adds ₹14,639 a month in hand. Work out your own hike, or the new CTC on your offer letter.
If your employer pays PF on your full Basic
Many employers cap PF at the statutory wage ceiling, which rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month on 17 September 2026; that is what the figures above assume. If yours contributes on your full Basic of ₹37,500 a month instead, your in-hand falls to ₹63,989 a month, ₹4,106 less: your own contribution rises, and so does your employer's, which comes out of your CTC. In exchange ₹54,000 a year goes into your PF from your side, matched by your employer. Your payslip will say which applies. How the PF ceiling works.

Notes on your numbers
- The PF wage ceiling rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month on 17 September 2026 (S.O. 5109(E)), so your PF deduction steps up from October. The yearly figures here include the change; your monthly in-hand is an average across the year.
