What counts as salary

Annual salary or wages. We use your regular salary for the year and leave out variable pay.

Who is exempt

  • We have not confirmed this state’s list of exempt employees from an official source. Your employer’s payroll team will know.

Where these figures come from

Madhya Pradesh Vritti Kar Adhiniyam 1995 (Act 16 of 1995), Schedule Entry 1, as published by the Commercial Tax Department.

The schedule tests annual salary or wages. If your employer counts a large bonus as salary, you could fall in a higher band than shown here.

Does it reduce your income tax?

Only in the old regime. Professional tax is deductible from salary under section 19(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025, and section 202(2) removes that deduction for anyone taxed under the new regime.
