Where these figures come from

Odisha State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments (Repeal) Ordinance, 2026, promulgated under Article 213 of the Constitution and published in the Odisha Gazette on 21 April 2026.

An Ordinance lapses unless the legislature replaces it with an Act within six weeks of reassembling. We found no report of a replacing Act yet. If your employer is still deducting professional tax in Odisha, ask why.

Does it reduce your income tax?

Only in the old regime. Professional tax is deductible from salary under section 19(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025, and section 202(2) removes that deduction for anyone taxed under the new regime.
