Where these figures come from
Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act 1975, Schedule I Entry 1, as amended by Mah. Act XIX of 2023.
Does it reduce your income tax?
Only in the old regime. Professional tax is deductible from salary under section 19(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025, and section 202(2) removes that deduction for anyone taxed under the new regime.
