A higher CTC does not always mean more money each month. Variable pay, a joining bonus, the PF rules and even the city change what actually reaches your bank. Enter both offers as they appear on the offer letters and see them side by side.
How to compare two offers
- Start with the monthly in-hand. It is the fixed pay that lands every month, after income tax, PF and professional tax, and the fairest single number to compare.
- Treat variable pay as a maybe. It sits inside CTC but is paid once or twice a year, and often at less than 100%. The table shows the year with it in full, so you can judge how much you are counting on it.
- A joining bonus is one year only. It is taxed like salary at your highest slab, and most offer letters ask for it back if you leave within twelve months.
- PF on your full Basic means less in hand but more saved. Some employers pay PF on the whole Basic rather than the ₹25,000 ceiling. Your monthly pay drops, and your PF balance grows by the same amount from each side.
- The city matters too. Professional tax differs by state, and under the old regime the HRA exemption depends on your rent and whether you live in one of the eight 50% cities.
Each offer uses the calculator's engine with Basic at the share you enter, HRA at half of Basic and special allowance taking the rest. For any other structure, open an offer's full breakdown and match each component from the letter. To see what a raise does instead, use the salary hike calculator.
