Where these figures come from
Manipur Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Taxation Act 1981, Schedule Entry A, as substituted by the Eighth Amendment Act 2012 (Manipur Gazette Extraordinary No. 199, 31 August 2012), in force from 1 September 2012.
The Act fixes an annual amount but not the instalments. We spread it evenly over the year, with the remainder in March.
Does it reduce your income tax?
Only in the old regime. Professional tax is deductible from salary under section 19(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025, and section 202(2) removes that deduction for anyone taxed under the new regime.
